SECTION 3: CLAMPING FORCE TEST

 

Test Procedure:
  1. A fully assembled concrete tie with two short pieces of rail shall be arranged on the both rail seats.
  2. A load shall gradually be applied to lift up the rail until a metal shim of 0.1O mm can be extracted under the rail 9r rail pad. Record the load.
  3. The toe loads shall then be measured by divided the rail lifting load by 2. Carry out the same manner above for another rail seat.
  4. The clamping force for one rail seat is the average of both rail lifting loads.

 

Acceptance Criteria:

The assembly shall be considered satisfactory when the calculated clamping force per rail seat is within the range of 17 - 19 kN.
